Austria drafts new law aimed at deterring Afghan Migrants

The Cabinet of Austria introduced new law to prevent Afghan migrants from seeking asylum in Austria. The need for bill arose after the country faced acceleration in the number of asylum seekers.

According to the new law most Afghans will now have to wait for three years as opposed to one year to be able to bring family members to Austria. They would also need to have an independent source of income, health insurance and a residence.

This new bill has received immense amount of criticism from UN High Commissioner for Refugees as it is believed to increase the plight of migrants and hinder integration.
