Petition Filed In Sindh High Court Challenging Amendment In Sindh local Government Act

A Petition has been filed in the Sindh High Court challenging the amendments in the Sindh Local Government Act 2013. The Petition was filed by MQM nominee for Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar.

In the petition, they termed the amendments in the Local Government Act ‘violation’ of Article 266. It added that according to the constitution, balloting for reserved seats should be held secretly.

Article 266 of the Constitution reads as under:

266 Repeal.
The Interim Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, together with the Acts and President’s Orders making omissions from, additions to, modifications of, or amendments in, that Constitution is hereby repealed.
