Notices Issued On Acting NAB DG’s Appointment

Notices Issued On Acting NAB DG’s Appointment

The Lahore High Court has issued notices to the federal government and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman on a petition challenging appointment of retired Major Syed Burhan Ali as acting Director General (DG) of NAB Punjab.

As the court took up the petition, Advocate Nadeem Ahmad Sheikh argued on behalf of the petitioner that the law did not allow giving acting charge of the post of NAB Director General for more than six months.

The counsel said the respondent was appointed as acting DG purely on political grounds and more than six months had passed since the appointment. He said the unlawful appointment had been hampering working and other affairs of the-anti corruption watchdog. He asked the court to set aside the appointment and order the government to appoint a permanent DG.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza heard the arguments and sought replies from the government and NAB chairman by May 2.
