Summary: In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 89 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973, the President promulgated the following Ordinance, that was laid down as the National Command Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 2016, which aimed to further amend the National Command Authority Act 2010 (Act V of 2010).

The purpose of the National Command Authority Act 2010 was to provide for constitution and establishment of the National Command Authority, for the purposes of complete command and control over research, development, production and use of nuclear and space technologies and other related applications in various fields and in providing for the safety and security of all personnel, facilities, information and installations.

The recommended amendments were notably in terms of Section 7(d), Section 15 and section 17 of the Act V of 2010. Amendments may take place under the Section 16 of the 2010 Act, which allows for amendments to be made on the recommendation of the authority, the federal government, through a notification in the Official Gazette.
