National Accountability Bureau Updates

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has selected a handful of officers on merit out of the thousands of applications received.

The Chair of the Bureau acknowledged the magnitude of the task of selecting the best out of the best officers without bribery or aberration in the entire process of recruitment of the National Accountability Bureau officers in 2017.

All the officers have been directed to redouble their efforts in eradicating corruption since this is a national duty, with the Bureau committed to eliminating it by adopting a zero-tolerance policy.

It has been highlighted that the anti-corruption watchdog is Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organisation, which has chalked out a proactive anti-corruption strategy to eliminate corruption through a holistic approach towards awareness, prevention and enforcement. Along with arresting the corrupt and recovering the looted money from them which is deposited in the national exchequer.

Since its inception, the National Accountability Bureau has recovered Rs287 billion from the corrupt and deposited it in the National Exchequer. Due to the credibility of the Bureau, the figures of complaints, inquiries and investigations have almost doubled compared to the same period of 2015 to 2017.

Reputable national and international organisations have trusted the Bureau while appreciating the performance of the anti-corruption watchdog.

The Bureau has devised a comprehensive Quantified Grading System to review and further improve the performance of officers. Under the grading system, the National Accountability Bureau’s regional bureaus have been evaluated for the past three (3) years on an annual and mid-term basis which has helped improve the performance of the National Accountability Bureau’s regional bureaus.

It has organised a seminar for the South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in Islamabad in which SAARC member countries, including India, appreciated the anti-corruption strategy adopted by the National Accountability Bureau.

Subsequently, the Bureau has been selected as the first chair of the SAARC countries’ Anti-Corruption Forum.
