Google Book Scanning Is Fair Use According to US Federal Appeals Court
The US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit decided that Google’s attempts to upload millions of books for an online library is permissible fair use. Google has managed to scan more than 20 million books since 2004 in an effort to provide people with a searchable catalog of books in all languages. In addition, Google believes that it respects the copyright owners by offering purchase opportunities along with limited online access.
One of the writer organizations bringing the suit, The Author’s Guild, assured to appeal the decision.
