Arrest of ANP Senator Sitara Ayaz stopped by Peshawar High Court
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Accountability Commission had issued arrest warrants for Ms. Ayaz last week over corruption charges amounting to Rs. 1 billion.
However, the arrest was stopped by the Peshwar High Court on the basis that such an arrest would not be justified without any evidence of the alleged corruption.
Previously, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission team tied to arrest Ms. Ayaz from the Federal Capital Islamabad but the arrest was not carried out by the police as according to Nasir Durrani, Inspector General (IG) Capital Territory Police, an action inside the lawmakers’ official residential area requires permission from the chairman of the upper house.
Ms. Ayaz maintains that arrest warrants were issued under the garb of political victimization.
