SHAIKH AHMAD HASSAN SCHOOL OF LAW (SAHSOL) PRESENTS A TALK ON
Legal Reform and Policy to Counter Violence Against Women
By
Mr. Salman Sufi,
Senior Member, Special Monitoring Unit (Law & Order) Punjab
Date: Tuesday, November 17, 2015
Time: 5 pm
Venue: Asifa-Irfan Moot Courtroom, SAHSOL
Each day in Punjab, 6 women are murdered or are victims of attempted murder, 8 are raped, 11 are battered and assaulted, and 32 women are abducted (Punjab DIG Investigation Branch 2013). The conviction rate in cases of violence against women, however, stands at an abysmal 1-2.5%.
Efforts are underway to protect the victims of such violence and provide mechanisms through which perpetrators can be brought to justice. Mr. Salman Sufi shall discuss the legal and policy instruments currently under discussion or implementation in the Punjab.
