Local Govt Secretary Summoned & Notice To SECP Issued Over Involvement Of Legislators In Public Sector Companies
The Lahore High Court has summoned the Local Government Secretary in a petition of the Opposition Leader in the provincial Assembly questioning involvement of legislators in public sector companies.
Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed pleaded through Advocate Sheraz Zaka that 12 members of the assembly had been holding different positions in public sector companies in violation of the Public Sector Companies Corporate Governance Rules 2013.
The companies include Lahore Waste Management Company, Lahore Transport Company, Lahore Parking Company, Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company and Punjab Saaf Pani Company.
The petitioner said rules did not allow a person having political or legislative role to become director of a public sector company.
The court also issued a notice to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and adjourned hearing till April 17.
