LHC Declares Ban On Maalik Illegal
The Singh High Court recently declared the ban on Maalik (the movie) illegal on September 6th 2016 and ordered the film to be screened. Similarly, the Lahore High Court has declared the ban on the movie illegal.
Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf challenged the ban alleging mala fide intention on part of the government. The people of Pakistan have the fundamental right to watch this movie. The petitioner stated the impugned ban was not in accordance with law as it goes against the fundamental right of freedom of speech (Article 19 of the Constitution). The petitioner accused the Ministry of exceeding its power and trying to save the political elite. These arguments led the judge to pronounce the judgment which had been reversed earlier.
an upright decision, maintaining the principle of Article 19 of the Constitution.
