Chinese University Of Technical And Vocational Education
A Chinese university of technical and vocational education is being established in Lahore by February 2018 for raising human resource for the sectors that Beijing is interested in exploring in Punjab.
The groundwork for the varsity had been finalised with the law department being sent the draft for an Ordinance that will provide a legal status to the institution.
The Punjab Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) has signed an agreement with the Tianjin University of Technology and Education, China, to collaborate in establishing a varsity of technical and vocational training in Punjab by reconstituting a TEVTA operated institution.
In this connection, the Chief Minister of Punjab has notified a committee under the school education Minister to coordinate with Tianjin University for the purpose.
The committee has held a series of meetings and discussed various options and features of the proposed varsity, including its charter, courses to be offered, budgetary requirements, faculty hiring, and availability of space as per requirements of the Punjab Higher Education Commission. Chinese faculty and consultants, to ensure production of a quality human resource, would most likely run the varsity. It could be given the premises of The Government College of Emerging Technologies, Green Town, or The Government College of Technology, Raiwind.
The Chief Minister subsequently has constituted a Steering Committee with the direction to establish the University by February 2018. Moreover, the draft ordinance that is sent will soon be promulgated.
