Christian Grant For Opposition MPA

Christian Grant For Opposition MPA

The Lahore High Court has directed the Punjab government to ensure disbursement of Christian grant to an Opposition parliamentarian elected on a reserved seat.

Justice Faisal Zaman Khan issued the order on the petition of Shunila Ruth, a Punjab Assembly member of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Her counsel, Sheraz Zaka, argued that the PML-N led Punjab government discriminated against members of the Opposition while disbursing Christian grant and other funds among the MPAs elected on reserved seats for minorities.

The counsel said Christian MPAs of the ruling party were getting Christian grant but the petitioner (Ms Ruth), the only Christian MPA (on reserved seats) from the PTI, was denied the fund.

He asked the court to order the government not to discriminate against the opposition members and allow Christian grant to the petitioner as well.

The judge directed Punjab Chief Secretary and Lahore District Coordination Officer to include name of the petitioner in Christian quota fund within four weeks.
