Petition To Set Up Shadow Cabinet In Punjab Assembly

Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court for amendments to the Assembly’s Rules Of Business to set up a ‘shadow cabinet’ in the province on the lines of British parliamentary system.

Rasheed filed the petition through Advocate Sheraz Zaka contending that corruption and misuse of power in government and semi-government departments was rampant due to dysfunctional Public Accounts Committees meant to keep a check on departments.

He stated a shadow cabinet should be constituted in the province as in the UK to make the accounts committees functional. He asked the court to order amendments to the Rules of the Assembly to establish the shadow cabinet.
