Notices Issued To ECP And Others On Plea Against Khawaja Ahmad Hassan
Lahore High Court issued notice to Election Commission of Pakistan and other authorities in relation to a petition filed against Khawaja Ahmad Hassan seeking his disqualification. The petition was filed by PTI leader Zubair Khan through his counsel Sheraz Zaka. It was argued by the petitioner that Khwaja Ahmad Hassan held different positions with different public departments including Lahore Development Authority, Lahore Transport Company and Lahore Waste Management Company and as per Section 27 of Local Government Act 2013, a person who had held an office of a statutory body controlled by a provincial government was not eligible to contest election of local bodies before two years’ elapse. It was further submitted that the respondent should be disqualified and notification for his success as Chairman UC-107 should be declared void.
The single bench comprising Justice Shahid Karim after hearing initial arguments issued notices to Election Commission and other respondents for March 31 seeking reply.
