The Pakistan Law Students Association (PLSA) has successfully concluded its “4-Week Summer Fellowship Programme 2.0,” held in collaboration with the Lahore High Court Bar Association. The initiative brought together law students and leading members of Pakistan’s legal community for an intensive programme centred on professional development, practical learning, and career grooming.
This followed PLSA’s earlier “4-Week Summer Fellowship Programme,” organised in Islamabad in collaboration with the Islamabad Bar Association. Both editions were designed around PLSA’s core mission: the growth and professional development of law students.
The fellowship went beyond conventional academic learning. Across 12 sessions, participants heard from prominent lawyers, a retired judge, and other legal professionals on practical and contemporary areas of law, with the programme aimed at equipping students with the knowledge, skills, ethics, and professional mindset required for a successful legal career.
12 Days, 12 Practical Legal Sessions
Day 1 — Corporate Law & Competition Law
Adv. Hasan Irfan Khan, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, opened the fellowship with a session on corporate and competition law, introducing participants to key aspects of these specialised practice areas.
Day 2 — Understanding Islamic Inheritance Law
Dr. Aatir Rizvi discussed the principles governing inheritance under Islamic law.
Day 3 — Why the Constitution Matters
Barrister Salman Akram Raja addressed the importance of constitutional principles and their role in Pakistan’s legal and political framework.
Day 4 — Property Laws
Barrister Haider Ali Najafi covered key concepts relevant to property-related legal practice.
Day 5 — Legal Research and Its Uses in Law
Barrister Muhammad Ahmed Qayyum highlighted the importance of effective research in legal education and professional practice.
Day 6 — Cyber Laws
Adv. Shamim ur Rehman Malik discussed the evolving legal framework surrounding cyberspace and technology.
Day 7 — Legal Drafting
Adv. Nauman Qureshi led a practical session on legal drafting, an essential skill for students entering practice.
Day 8 — Criminal Justice System of Pakistan
Barrister Khadija Siddiqi gave an overview of the functioning and challenges of the criminal justice system.
Day 9 — Criminology and Its Uses for Law Students
Justice (Retd.) Erum Sajjad Gul explored the relevance of criminology to legal education and practice.
Day 10 — Making of a Lawyer
Barrister Ambreen Qureshi spoke on the qualities, professional development, and mindset required to build a successful legal career.
Day 11 — Court Ethics for Law Students
Zain Ali Qureshi highlighted the importance of professional conduct, responsibility, and ethics in the legal profession.
Day 12 — Career Pathways in Law
Barrister Taimur Malik concluded the substantive sessions by guiding students through the diverse professional opportunities available within the legal field.
Certificates and Closing Ceremony
Following the completion of the 12-day learning component, participants were awarded certificates of participation in recognition of their commitment to the fellowship. PLSA also held a closing and shield distribution ceremony, presenting awards to organisers and outstanding participants for their efforts and dedication throughout the programme.
For PLSA, the fellowship was more than another entry on the academic calendar — it reflected the association’s continuing commitment to its motto, “The Growth of Law Students,” and its broader vision of creating platforms through which future lawyers can learn, connect, develop professional skills, and prepare for the challenges of the legal profession.
