Law Proposed By Egyptian MP To Remove Religious Affiliation From National ID Cards
Egyptian Member of Parliament Alaa Abdel Moneim, known for being a strong willed person and fighter against corruption, recently declared his intention of introducing legislation to remove “religious affiliation” on national identity cards.
According to the Article 53 of Egypt’s 2014 Constitution: “Citizens are equal before the law, possess equal rights and public duties, and may not be discriminated against on the basis of religion, belief, sex, origin, race, color, language, disability, social class, political or geographical affiliation, or for any other reason”.
Abdel Moneim emphasizes on the application and practice of this article in its true letter and spirit in order to eliminate discrimination.
