Court To Hear Case Of Young Housekeeper Injured At Judge’s House
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected a petition that asked for a minor’s case to be transferred to an appropriate district court. It was decided that the IHC would hear the torment case, where a 10 year old housekeeper was discovered beaten and injured from a judge’s house in the city.
Amid the proceedings, the High Court rejected an appeal by legal counselor Asma Jehangir in the interest of civil society requiring exchange of the case from High Court to a district court. She had also filed a petition to become party to the case. However, both the petitions were denied.
The 10 year old was working as a maid at the house of an Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Raja Khurram Ali Khan, and had been reported to be physically abused by the said judge and his wife. Previously, the court had ordered the case to be transferred from the initial trial court to a higher court as the magistrate could be associated to the accused. Proceedings now are to take place in the IHC.
