The Pakistan Health Research Council Act (2015)

Summary: The Pakistan Health Research Council Act has been proposed to reconstitute Pakistan Medical Research Council as The Pakistan Health Research Council with a legal status of a corporate body through the Act of Parliament, whereas, currently it is working as a governmental body. The Council shall submit an annual report to the Federal Government on the conduct of its affairs, for the preceding year as early as possible but no later than December 31st.

The Council is to be responsible for:

    • Promoting, organizing, coordinating and conducting scientific research in the fields of health, including allopathic, homeopathic, herbal, ayurvedic and traditional medicine

 

    • Ensuring that health research is relevant to the problems and issues of health in Pakistan within the framework of national, legal, socio-economic development

 

    • Facilitating development of institutional capacity for research including training and manpower

 

    • Organizing and facilitating appropriate utilization of results of the research

 

    • Advising the Federal and Provincial Governments and any other relevant body/organization on matters related to health research

 

    • Establishing, strengthening, expanding information, disseminating findings of health related research through publications, conferences, seminars, media and meetings

 

    • Providing financial support for health research through grants and fellowships

 

    • Establishing linkages with national and international research institutions, bodies and organizations as well as relevant community groups and agencies

 

  • Developing financial and other resources for its functions and for the support of research
