Lawyers Movement To Defend 2 Women Accused Of ‘Gross Indecency’ In Morocco

Hundreds of lawyers in Morocco have signed up to defend two women arrested for “gross indecency” for wearing dresses that were considered too tight and provocative by a passerby.

The accused women went on trial and were charged with indecent exposure, a crime for which they could face up to 2 years in prison.

Five hundred lawyers registered to defend the two women in court, but only 200 were able to attend because of restricted space in the courtroom. The lawyers took turns in putting forward arguments, including the point that laws needed to be amended in order to conform with to human rights and individual freedoms.
