The Right to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Act, 2015 (Private Member’s Bill)

Proposed and Moved By: Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak (Member, National Assembly)

Status: Pending

Summary: The Right to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Act, 2015, seeks to further amend The Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2012. Despite the already existing law on the topic, there are certain loopholes in the legislation that need to be fixed according to the proposed amendment. Several government schools lack libraries and proper labs that need to be appropriated to the number of students present. It is also very important to specify the age limit of a child and make sure the child is in a grade that is appropriate for the said age. Simultaneously, the government should uphold its responsibility to provide infrastructure, train teachers and ensure that all and any sort of discrimination against children inside schools is eliminated.
