Law Firms Prove To Be LGBT Friendly, According to Survey
The results of 2015 Corporate Equality Index show that law firms are the most represented industry among participants to receive a perfect score for their LGBT policies.
Out of the 156 law firms that took part (which includes a majority of American Lawyer 200 firms), 95 achieved a perfect score this year, which is actually an increase from 87 last year. Another 20 firms scored above 90 per cent.
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation developed the index, and it seeks to evaluate policies on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees using 40 specific policies and practices.
In order to get a perfect score, firms must have fully-inclusive equal employment opportunity policies, provide equal employment benefits, demonstrate organizational LGBT competency, evidence their commitment to equality publicly and implement internal guidelines which prohibit philanthropic giving to organizations that discriminate against LGBT people.
