Woman In Multan Attacks Man With Acid For Refusing Marriage Proposal
A 36 year old woman was arrested by police in Multan for throwing acid on a 24-year old man for refusing her marriage proposal. The attack inflicted wounds and burns on half of the victim’s body and he was taken to be operated in Nishter Hospital. According to the claim of the victim’s father, the woman was already married with four children.
Acid attack cases range from 150 to 400 every year in Pakistan but this case gets unique attention as 80% of the acid attacks are usually carried out by men, where women are victims. The purpose behind such attacks is not to end someone’s life but to cause physical and mental pain. According to statistics, the force behind such attacks varies from domestic disputes to personal revenge; monetary and property disputes to rejection of marriage proposals; or suspicions of illegitimate relations to marriage of choice.
