Lawmakers in New Jersey Propose Immigrant Driver’s License Bill
Lawmakers in New Jersey proposed a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to get New Jersey drivers’ licenses. The bill, considered by the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee, would allow undocumented immigrants to get a license if they are able to fulfill the given requirements of the state for providing proof of identity, date of birth and proof of residency.
The state Motor Vehicles Commission would decide what documents could be considered as proof. Chris Christie, New Jersey Governor, claimed that he would reject the bill as it can prove to be dangerous. However, supporters of the bill claim that it will improve road safety.
