PIA and CAA Have Taken No Action Against Violation of Air Safety Law Even After Several Weeks

PIA and Civil Aviation Authority have taken no action against an Islamabad based pilot Qasim Hayat for reportedly putting the lives of over 350 Toronto-bound passengers at risk.

Mr Hayat had not taken the mandatory 24-hour rest before he operated the Toronto-bound flight PK 789 on 7th April 2015, instead he had only taken a 7-8 hour rest. The mandatory rest is prescribed in the CAA’s laws so that the air crew is not fatigued during flight duty since that might lead to disastrous circumstances.

Spokespersons for PIA and CAA have assured that they would thoroughly inquire into the matter but no inquiry has been initiated yet.
