Anti-terrorism court in Karachi issued a black warrant for the hanging of death row prisoner Shafqat Hussain as the stay period for his execution was over. He is to be hanged till death on June 9 at 4:30 am under the supervision of a judicial magistrate.
Shafqat was arrested and sentenced to death in 2004 for the kidnapping and involuntary murder of a seven-year-old boy, who lived in a Karachi apartment building where he worked as a security guard. Since then a number of legal issues have been raised by his counsel, all of which have been turned down by the courts and investigation agencies, including the issues of death penalty and of him being a juvenile at the time of arrest.
