Mumtaz Qadri’s review plea against death penalty rejected
The Supreme Court of Pakistan rejected Mumtaz Qadri’s review petition against his death sentence, which was first awarded in 2011 by an anti-terrorism court, for killing Punjab governor Salman Taseer. According to the court ruling Qadri’s lawyers were unable to prove blasphemy in the case and also rejected the formation of a larger bench to hear the arguments as blasphemy had not been proved. Further his lawyers failed to point out any error in the court’s judgement, resulting in dismissal of the review petition over non-maintainability.
