Orlando Prosecutor Seeks Delay In Death Penalty Cases
The top prosecutor in the Orlando area says he is asking judges to delay temporarily the trial of death penalty cases after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Florida’s sentencing procedure is flawed. The request is being made as a safety precaution till the lawmakers are able to address the Supreme Court’s concerns while the legislature is in session.
Furthermore he hoped that procedural changes will be made in the law. One of the flaws made out in the sentencing procedure was that juries play only an advisory role in recommending death while the judge can reach a different decision.
