Smoking in Cars with Children Banned in England from October
In England and Wales, drivers and passengers are being warned that it will soon be illegal to smoke in any vehicle carrying children starting October 2015.
The Department of Health has warned drivers that the ban will come into effect from October 1st 2015 and means that smoking will be illegal in any vehicle carrying anyone under the age of 18. Smokers face a £50 fine and drivers could face additional penalties for not stopping passengers from smoking. The law will apply to every driver in England and Wales including those aged 17 and those with a provisional licence.
The change in the law aims to protect children and young people from the dangers of second hand smoke including health issues with airways, lungs and immune systems.
