Proposed and Moved by: Ms. Munaza Hassan and Dr. Shireen Mehrunnisa Mazari (Members, National Assembly)
Status: Pending
Summary: The main objective of The Fair Representation of Women Act, 2015, is to make sure that women are represented fairly in decision-making processes of the government, governmental bodies, public administration entities and within the judiciary. The main goal of the bill is to strike a gender balance and make sure that women have equal access to and full participation in power structures and to enhance women’s capacity to participate in decision-making.
The purpose of the bill is to take the aforementioned objectives forward by taking the initial step of allocating 33 per cent membership to women in decision-making bodies of the Federal Government. The scope of the bill, however, is not limited and must be widened to at least 33 per cent representation of women in all major administration, Boards of Educational Institutions, public sector universities and in higher up in the judiciary.
