New Bench Formed By Islamabad High Court To Hear Tortured Housekeeper Case
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has set up a new bench to hear the tortured housekeeper case. This has happened days after the judge handling the case has rescued himself from future hearings.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, who was hearing the case, earlier in the week recused himself from future hearings after declaring former Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Raja Khurram Ali Khan (the accused) guilty during a departmental inquiry.
The case was then sent back to the Chief Justice of the IHC. Subsequently, the Chief Justice of the IHC established a single-member bench including Justice Umer Farooq to hear the case of the ten-year-old housekeeper. She was found tortured from the house of the former ADSJ where she had been illegally employed. The case was filed on the basis of the torture that she was made subject to by the ADSJ and his wife.
The Supreme Court took suo motu notice of the matter after the issue was made prominent on social media.
