Detail Of Public Places’ Security Sought From Govt
The Lahore High Court has sought details from the Punjab government and police authorities about the steps taken to ensure security at public places.
Earlier, representing the petitioner, Advocate Sheraz Zaka, argued before the court that the Punjab Home Secretary issued a security alert to the Inspector General (IG) of Police on April 17 about possible security threats in Lahore.
The lawyer said that in order to secure the fundamental rights of citizens, the court should ask the IG what security steps had been taken at public places, especially inside the high court premises.
When asked about the court’s jurisdiction in the matter, the counsel argued that superior court judgments have ruled that in public interest issues the court was supposed to conduct inquisitorial proceedings rather adversarial.
Justice Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa issued notices to the Punjab government, IG and the the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) with directions to submit details of the steps taken for the security of public places.
The hearing was adjourned for May 11.
