Sindh High Court Dismisses PPP Karachi President’s Petition

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has dismissed a petition filed by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Karachi President and a previous government minister, Dr Asim Hussain. The petition looked for the retrieval of his Pakistani and Canadian passports and expulsion of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

“As the other prayer regarding memorandum dated November 24, 2015 is concerned, since the name of the petitioner is now placed on the ECL on the basis of an order passed by this court while granting bail to the petitioner and which we have maintained by dismissing the miscellaneous application, no further adjudication on the said memorandum is required,” the court declared in the order that it passed.

Headed by Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, the two-judge bench reported its decision which was made on May 26, 2017. The decision was made in the wake of hearing the contentions of the petitioner’s lawyer, the Attorney General and the National Accountability Bureau’s prosecutor.
