LUMS Law and Politics Society Releases Second Edition of The Political Animal

**LUMS Law and Politics Society has published the second edition of its flagship magazine, The Political Animal (2025–26), with this year’s editorial theme, “Women’s Struggles and Feminist Resistance in South Asia.” As a student-led publication, The Political Animal provides a platform for critical engagement with contemporary social, legal, and political issues through essays, commentary, poetry, research, and legal analysis.

The publication features a foreword by renowned lawyer and legal scholar Ahmer Bilal Soofi, President of the Qur’an Covenant Research Center (QCRC), who commends the initiative for promoting intellectual inquiry, civic responsibility, and thoughtful engagement with questions of democracy, justice, and human dignity.

The second volume was made possible through the efforts of the wider LUMS Law and Politics Society community, including M. Mughees Bahadur (President), Maham Imran (Editor-in-Chief), Insiya Bakali (Senior Editor), Fizza Majid (Creative Editor), and editors Mariah Farooq, Alina Ali, and Rameen Nadeem. The publication also acknowledges the contributions of Ayesha Zafar (Patron), former Editor-in-Chief Anas Khalid, former President Hayat Lak, the publication’s contributors, researchers, designers, and members of the editorial, publications, logistics, support, and external relations teams whose collective efforts helped bring the magazine to fruition.

Bringing together diverse student and expert voices, The Political Animal examines themes ranging from gender justice and constitutionalism to human rights, political accountability, international affairs, and contemporary social movements, reinforcing LPS’s commitment to fostering informed discourse and meaningful civic engagement.

“The Political Animal and other student publications are integral to critical thinking, serious study and important public engagement. They offer a crucial outlet for young authors and academics to discuss complex social, legal and political questions and to bring new perspectives to current discussions. The present one’s dedication to the struggles of South Asian women and feminist resistance is both timely and vital. I congratulate the editorial team, the leadership of LUMS Law and Politics Society, the contributors and all others involved including those behind the scenes providing support and logistics, for putting together a thoughtful publication that captures the best traditions of academic inquiry and civic engagement.” Barrister Taimur Malik, Founder of Courting The Law
