Egyptian Lawyer Shot For Exposing Corruption Case

A young lawyer, Ahmed Gad, who had been working on a corruption case that exposes embezzlement of 1.7 billion Egyptian pounds on part of Khaled Hanafy, the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, has just been shot three times after he tried to go public with the information he had obtained.

Gad had approached the general prosecutor with all the information and documents to validate his claim, and also went on to ONTV’s program The Complete Picture, to speak out about the entire situation where he also claimed that he had received anonymous death threats from people involved in the corruption case. These threats actually manifested as soon as he stepped out of the studio and was shot three times. He is in critical condition at the moment.

Given the changing political climate and government in Egypt, it is hoped that protection and immunity to whistle-blowers shall be ensured and necessary action will be taken against the assailants.
